-チュニジア中部、ちょうどスースとスファックスの中間地点の町。~
-その片隅にローマ時代の円形闘技場の遺跡がある。~
-ここにはローマが到来する前からフェニキア人が築いた町があったが、取り壊されて、ローマ様式の町に建て直され、「シスドラス」と名づけられている。~
-オリーブオイルの製造でや貿易で潤い、繁栄の時期を迎えた。3世紀に円形闘技場が建設されると、スースとチュニジア第2の都市の座を競い合った。しかし、その頃を境に経済は衰退し、外部勢力の侵入で街は滅びた。~
-闘技場のアリーナ部分の直径はおよそ65ｍ。周囲は3万5千人収容の観客席で包まれていた。闘士による戦いや戦車のレースなどが行われた。~
-1979年に世界遺産に登録されている。~
-闘技場を舞台に毎年夏に音楽フェスティバルが開催される。kj~
