-ブルターニュ地方の首都~
-TGV駅があり、ブルターニュ地方の玄関口となる都市。~
-ガリア人の城塞都市で建設され、交通の要衝として栄えた。~
-南北にナントとサン・マロ、そして東西にル・マンとブレストを結ぶ街道が交差する。~
-1720年の大火で木造の伝統的建築の多くが焼失し、石造りの建築を中心に街は整然と再建された。~
-第二次世界大戦でも大きな被害を受けている。~
-しかし、サン・ピエール大聖堂周辺の旧市街には、災禍を免れた15〜16世紀の木造建築も残っていて、中世の趣きを今も感じさせる。~
-サン・ピエール大聖堂自体は19世紀完成のネオクラシック様式の建築。~
-ほかにも市内には宮廷建築家ガブリエルが参画した18世紀建造の市庁舎や、1552年にブルターニュ高等法院として建てられた裁判所など、荘厳な建築が点在する。kbt~
