ティパサ Tipasa †

アルジェの西約70km。
丘の上にあるローマ時代の遺跡が有名な町。
砂浜に面した市街は19世紀半ばに建設されたもの。
この地域はローマ時代に軍事拠点となり、後に都市が建設された。
ローマは司教座を置いてキリスト教化をはかったが、ほとんどの住民は応じなかった。
続いて484年にヴァンダルの王がアリウス派の司教を送り込んだが、住民の多くは国外に逃避した。そして残った人々は迫害を受け、町は荒廃してしまった。
ローマの都市遺跡は現在は国立考古学公園となっている。
3つ連なる丘のうち、東側の丘には聖サルサ大聖堂、西の丘には大バシリカとアレクサンダー大聖堂があった。建物自体は崩壊してしまったが、遺構が残っている。
真ん中の丘には住宅が建てられたと言われているが、今はその面影はない。
1982年に世界遺産に登録されている。整備状況が悪く、一時は危機遺産リストにあげられていた。kj
